5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I absolutely loved Loretta Lynn's heartfelt, funny, and moving story about her friendship with Patsy Cline and the early years of Loretta's career. It felt like listening to a family member tell you stories from "back in the day."
I'm a sucker for a good friendship story, fictional or not, and the friendship between Loretta and Patsy was really something special. What a gift Loretta has shared with readers by detailing her and Patsy's friendship, as well as their lives as female artists trying to make it in a man's world—all while doing their best to be good wives and mothers, overcome their struggles and difficult pasts, and find their own identities as women.
I laughed and cried during this book, and nodded in agreement to so much of Loretta's musings and Patsy's wisdom; it felt like I was sitting in a room with Loretta, just listening to her tell stories.
I highly recommend listening to the audiobook, which was narrated by one of Loretta's daughters. It's a very short read, too, at just under five hours as an audiobook, it's perfect for a weekend or a long drive.
