3.5/5! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fast, entertaining read perfect for the fall season that will keep you guessing the whole book. I listened to this audiobook in one weekend!

I'm normally really good at figuring out what the twists and reveals are, but I didn't see the big reveals in "The Last To Vanish", which is always fun when a book genuinely surprises you. There were a few smaller plot points/twists I guessed, but I was still thoroughly invested throughout the book.

I think Abby, the main character and narrator, was a unique heroine to this type of genre. She could be just as shady and self-preserving as the other townspeople, but she was also selfless in her pursuit of the truth and trying to help a grieving man. I find that mystery/thriller genres tend to either have an unreliable narrator who ends up being an evil to morally grey main character, or a lawful good type of character who will do anything and everything to get to the truth. I liked that Abby was somewhere in the middle, I'd say maybe neutral good.

It was a little difficult at times to keep up with all the characters and how they all relate to the story and to each other, but that ultimately added to the mystery. To me, the setting was unique and pretty different from anything I've read before, and I enjoyed immersing myself in the mountain town and resort Miranda created.

If you want a quick, engaging, thrilling read, I highly recommend The Last To Vanish.
