4/5! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I read this book SO FAST, literally in two reading sessions. It's a shorter book in general, but still, I couldn't put it down because it was so interesting.
I really enjoyed Michaelides' writing style, it kept my full attention the whole time I was reading. Very engaging. The plot was very interesting too, although I was a bit confused/disappointed that some of the subplots didn't really go anywhere.
The characters are all so flawed, which I enjoyed because it made them more realistic. But, for me, it also introduced suspense and fear in a really interesting way. A few of the characters do act in a violent way, which creates reasonable fear, but even when a character isn't being violent or menacing, I had a feeling that at any second they could turn and do something monstrous. I felt wary of almost every character, and I think that was intentional on the author's part. I think he wants the reader to feel apprehensive, like Alicia.
The twist was brilliant, I didn't see it coming at all. If you want a fast, engaging, thrilling read, I highly recommend The Silent Patient.

🚨SPOILERS BELOW🚨
Theo ended up being one of the best unreliable narrators I've ever come across! Like I said before, I felt weary about almost every single character, but I wasn't weary of him until he started following the man who was sleeping with his wife. And by then, things progress very quickly and you realize Theo is not the kind, empathetic savior he's made himself out to be. I was truly shocked at how insane and self-centered he ended up being. It's done in a believable way though. Once the twist was revealed, I realized Theo hinted several times throughout the book that he was not a good person. There were also breadcrumbs to suggest that his efforts to save Alicia were not entirely altruistic.
